No child needs to feel cold, hungry or without a safe place to live if they are lucky enough to receive your help.  If you are not able to donate, please let others know about this important initiative through AnglicareSA to turn lives into less hardship in these coldest months of this year.  Nearly 1000 children in South Australia are homeless, please consider what you might be able to do.  There are so many worthy charities, all of which give back to our community members when needed – your support of AnglicareSA is so valued, thank you.

‘Thanks RiverDoc’sED!’

As always it is a pleasure and a privilege to head to the Riverland in Rural South Australia – in particular Berri on this occasion.   Thanks for having me!

I am here to share my expertise in service, standards and the importance of all members of any business ‘getting’ that this is important and essential for business success - listening and learning from our customers; ensuring we meet needs;  thinking outside the square when thinking about the service we provide for our communities.

As part of my ‘on the ground’ research I checked out the service of the RiverDoc’sED!  One broken ankle – in two places and one sprained ankle!  Life’s challenge is crutches right now!  RiverDoc’sED and the Berri Community have offered and supported me (in my hour of need) with first class care and attention all the way.

Tonight is to be shared with a team of 50 people from various businesses in the Riverland.  The Berri Resort Hotel is hosting this event with again, exceptional service and attention to detail, led by Chelsea and her team.  Looking forward to sharing an evening with humour (this is a given with a broken ankle!) and learning together with great people.  I’m excited!

THE DASH

I read of a man who stood to speak
at the funeral of a friend
he referred to the dates on the tombstone
from the beginning … to the end.

He noted that first came the date of birth
and spoke the following dates with tears,
but he said what mattered most of all
was the dash between those years.

For that dash represents all the time
that they spent alive on earth.
and now only those who loved them
know what that little line is worth.

For it matters not, how much we own,
the cars … the house … the cash.
what matters is how we live and love
and how we spend our dash.

So, think about this long and hard.
are there things you’d like to change?
for you never know how much time is left
that can still be rearranged.

If we could just slow down enough
to consider what’s true and real
and always try to understand
the way other people feel.

And be less quick to anger
and show appreciation more
and love the people in our lives
like we’ve never loved before.

If we treat each other with respect
and more often wear a smile
remembering that this special dash
might only last a little while.

So, when your eulogy is being read,
with your life’s actions to rehash …

I recall being told many years ago, ‘nothing worthwhile is ever easy, you need to do the work to gain the reward.’ Could this have been shared with me by some of my very wise mentors perhaps? Ongoing professional development needs support and understanding from others – educators, assessors, family, friends, work colleagues and more. With great support, empathy and care, the greatest reward can be success. As I continue to study myself – I absolutely ‘get’ that we all get pretty busy when trying to juggle everything life has to offer. It is good to know you are not alone. If your place in the world, right here and right now, is working hard to educate yourself, commit the time that is required to succeed, you will never regret it!
